The Fire Department has an opportunity available for 2 Acting Captains.  

Applicants must have attained a rank of Fourth Year Firefighter and must have completed a recognized Company Officer Program or an equivalent recognized standard (such as NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I) as determined by the Fire Chief.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

HOURS OF WORK:    42 hours per week (Monday to Sunday) 

RATE OF PAY:            $56.70 per hour (2019 I.A.F.F rate)

Applications are invited for a Regular Full-time Plan Checker/Inspector to work in the Development Services Department.  Under the direction of the Manager of Building and Licensing, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects to ensure structures comply with the B.C. Building Code and City bylaws and related statures and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.  The Plan Checker/Inspector is also responsible for assisting with the inspection of building projects during construction, alterations or repair to ensure compliance with approved plans, established by-laws, acts, codes, standards and regulations.   

RATE OF PAY:  Pay Grade 28:  $40.51 to $43.03    
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the British Columbia Building Code, City by-laws, policies and regulations, including Workers’ Compensation Legislation.  A Level 3 Building Official Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence are required.  Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired. Langley City is a progressive and well-led organization and has an attractive career position available for Assistant Manager of Building and Licensing.

 

Reporting to the Manager of Building and Licensing, the Assistant Manager of Building and Licensing is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of the Permit Services, Inspection Services and Business Licensing functions.  The successful candidate will supervise the permit application process and operations relating to the inspection of buildings and property to ensure compliance with applicable drawings, Codes, Bylaws, and regulations.  Additionally, the successful candidate will coordinate and supervise work related to the Board of Variance, ensure the proper investigation of Bylaw and Building Code violations and will provide interpretations of City building and zoning regulations, building permit processing and related matters to the public and other Departments.  The Assistant Manager is also responsible to develop training for inspection staff to ensure business license applications are processed in accordance with existing building regulations, as well as supervision of the Plan Checker/Inspectors.

 

Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology or trades qualification combined with at least 8 years’ work experience and BOABC Level 1 Plumbing Official Designation or the ability to obtain Level 1 certification within 2 years of employment is desired.  A current Level 3 Building Official Certificate from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C.
