Competition #22-42, Temporary Full-Time and Casual Engineering Worker (Boulevard Maintenance)

Applications are invited for Engineering Workers for Temporary Full-Time and potentially Casual assignments after the Temporary Full-Time assignment ends in the Engineering Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. These assignments are anticipated to begin from approximately February 2023 and end at the beginning to end of October 2023; subject to operational requirements the assignments may be extended. The successful candidates will perform a variety of manual duties for boulevard maintenance including mowing and trimming grass and weeds, keeping the boulevard free of weeds, invasive plants, litter, loose materials including leaves or debris, and keeping the boulevards in a tidy condition.  

RATE OF PAY:              $30.25 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rate)

HOURS OF WORK:     Temporary Full-Time hours are 40 hours per week 
                                     Casual hours are up to 40 hours per week 

Temporary Full-Time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of paid vacation and become eligible for benefits after 6 months of continuous employment.  Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of all benefits.   

The successful candidates will have Grade 12 plus experience in performing boulevard maintenance including skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment and the stamina and coordination to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License (a Class 3 is desirable) is required. Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

Competition #23-21, Casual, Recreation Worker 1 and Recreation Worker 2 (up to 10 assignments)

Join the fun in Recreation! Langley City is currently recruiting for casual Recreation Workers for a variety of programs in the Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department at Langley City.  We are looking for enthusiastic recreation workers for various recreation programs for all ages, such as cooking, dance, badminton, basketball, games room, soccer, arts, crafts, summer camps, and community special events. 

Applicants should have strong leadership, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.  Experience in instructing, coaching, recreation, summer camps and completion of High Five training is an asset.  Current Emergency First Aid certification is required. RATES OF PAY:   

Recreation Worker 1:  $18.03 – $19.45 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) plus 12.5% in lieu of all benefits

Recreation Worker 2:  $19.67 – $21.34 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) plus 12.5% in lieu of all benefits

Applications will be considered for both Recreation Worker I and Recreation Worker 2. You may be hired as both.

HOURS OF WORK:  

Up to 40 hours per week (depending on assignments) - Monday to Sunday; hours and days of work will vary including afternoons, evenings and weekends depending on programming and registration.

Competition #23-26, Temporary Full-Time and Casual, Parks Workers (Labourer – Horticulture/Arboriculture/Construction)

Applications are invited for Parks Workers for Temporary Full-time and Casual assignments in the Parks Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department.  Assignments start between April to May 2023 and end between September to October 2023; subject to operational requirements the assignments may be extended.  Parks Workers perform a variety of manual duties in the maintenance of floral and tree areas, turf and sports fields, playgrounds and related park areas.  One of the assignments is very specific to parks construction projects and the successful candidate will have semi-skilled abilities to work on playground equipment, benches, bleachers, wired and wooden fences and other related work as required.    

RATE OF PAY:                     $30.25 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rate)

HOURS OF WORK:              Temporary Full- Time hours are 40 hours per week.

Casual hours are up to 40 hours per week

(Primarily Monday to Friday, but some weekend shifts may be required)

Langley City is seeking casual Building Service Workers in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department.  The successful candidates will be responsible for janitorial duties, small repairs, and maintaining various City Facilities, providing coverage for vacation, illness and other absences.

The ideal candidate for this role has a Building Service Worker Certificate from a recognized institution, related experience, is self-motivated and customer service oriented.  A valid Emergency First Aid Certificate and a valid Class 5 B.C. The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $29.68 - $31.06 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) plus 12.5% in lieu of benefits.  The hours of work are up to 35 hours per week; Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons and evenings.
