The City is seeking an experienced Building Official (I, II, or III) – Plan Reviewer/Inspector to join the Development Services team. This position reviews, processes and issues building permits applications and inspects building permits in accordance with the B.C. Building Code. The Building Official – Plan Reviewer/Inspector also provides technical information and assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, and other municipal staff on matters related to the work. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in the technical aspects of the work while unusual problems or policy matters are discussed with a superior.

RATE OF PAY:  Level I - $36.32 - $38.48 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) 
                          Level II - $42.15 - $44.77 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)
                          Level III - $43.54 - $46.30 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, related bylaws, acts, standards, and regulations related to the building trade. Completion of a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by related courses, plus considerable related field and municipal experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and one of the following:

Level I – Registration as a Building Official and BOABC Level 1 Qualification.
Level II – Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 2 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.
Level III - Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 3 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.

The City is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Engineering Worker in the Engineering Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. This assignment begins January 22, 2024, and ends October 11, 2024; subject to operational requirements the assignment may be extended. The successful candidate will perform a variety of manual duties related to water, sewer, and storm maintenance. This assignment will be assigned to a crew to assist in the maintenance and installation of water mains & services, sanitary and storm mains, and services, 

RATE OF PAY:  $30.25 per hour (2021 CUPE rates) 

HOURS OF WORK:  40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Temporary Full-Time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of paid vacation and become eligible for benefits after 6 months of continuous employment.

The successful candidate will have Grade 12 plus experience in construction and maintenance including skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment and the stamina and coordination to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Competition #23-59, Lead Shift Supervisor (Al Anderson Memorial Pool), Casual

Langley City has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, 300 acres of parks, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities. 

Applications are invited for a Casual, Lead Shift Supervisor in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Lead Shift Supervisor is responsible for scheduling, supervising, and evaluating all aquatic employees. This role assists the Recreation Supervisor in planning, organizing, promoting, and evaluating the outdoor aquatic program. The Casual assignment starts March 9 or 10, 2023 and ends September 8, 2024 (full-time hours during the outdoor pool season, or approximately last week of April to beginning of September). 

The Lead Shift Supervisor will assist with the preparation, organization and conduct the Wet Interview and Skills Assessment and the In–Service Training. The Wet Interview and Skills Assessment will be on either March 9 or 10, 2024. Shift Supervisor In–Service training is April 24 to 28, 2024 / May 1 to 5, 2024 (Time to be determined) and Lifeguard/Instructor In-Service training is May 6 to May 9, 2024 (Time to be determined). Applicants must be available for all these dates.

RATE OF PAY:  $30.98 - $31.81 per hour (2021 CUPE rates) 

HOURS OF WORK:  Up to 40 hours per week 
                                   (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends) 

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation. 

Valid National Lifeguard Pool Certification, Lifesavings Swim for Life Instructor, BCRP Pool Operator I and II Certification, Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner Certification and a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required. Lifesaving Trainer, First Aid Instructor/Examiner are desired. Having worked at least one full summer at Al Anderson Memorial Pool and having extensive experience in lifeguarding, instruction and staff supervision is preferred. Courses or training in the following are also desired; Leadership or Recreation, Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training, or a Recreation  Leadership Diploma. Competition #23-60, Langley Youth and Family Services Clerk, Regular Full-time

The City is seeking an experienced and self-motivated regular full-time Langley Youth and Family Services Clerk to work in the Corporate Services Department. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, this position provides administrative support to the Langley Youth and Family Services operation and the Corporate Services Department. Responsibilities include answering the main switchboard and correctly routing calls and/or taking messages, while assessing urgency and being sympathetic to clients in crisis. This position greets new clients to the centre ensuring a confidential and comfortable experience is provided in the reception area. Other responsibilities include typing a variety of correspondence, reports and memoranda, maintaining the client database, generating quarterly client statistical reports, and maintaining financial records for Corporate Services. 

Completion of Grade 12 accompanied by relevant business administration courses and considerable relevant administrative experience, preferably within a related community support services setting is desired. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications is required and experience maintaining client records in a database system is preferred. The City is seeking a regular full-time Administrative Clerk – Tax and Utilities to work in the Corporate Services Department. Reporting to the Manager of Revenue and Business Systems, this position performs a variety of clerical duties in processing and maintaining records and accounts related to utilities, tax, and dog licenses, providing information to various individuals on matters related to the work. Responsibilities include receiving and posting payments, applying towards tax and utility accounts in Tempest system, maintain new and existing accounts for pre-payment plans and processing electronic Home Owner Grant (HOG) claims and deferred tax payment applications. The role maintains, posts and prepares water meter readings, prepares information for staff and invoices and also further supports the accounting function of Corporate Services, including reconciliations, cash deposits, preparing refunds and posting to related accounts.

Completion of Grade 12 accompanied by considerable cashiering experience, including receiving and processing large sums of money through accounting systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Knowledge of the provincial acts, regulations and procedures related to the work is required. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) applications is required and experience with Tempest and Unit 4 applications is an asset. The ideal candidate for this role has previous clerical experience in a finance or accounting setting, is comfortable with tax and fee calculations, and has strong communication and customer service skills.
