Langley City has an attractive career position available for Deputy Fire Chief, an opportunity to join a progressive and well-led organization.

The Deputy Fire Chief is part of the Fire Rescue Services Management Team and reports to the Fire Chief.  This position is responsible for assisting the Fire Chief in planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the operations of the Fire Department in all fire suppression and related emergency services and assists in ensuring that the department functions at an effective level within the policies approved by Council, the requirements of municipal bylaws and the expectations of the community.  The Deputy Fire Chief exercises considerable independence of judgment and action in carrying out assignments in accordance with department policies, plans and objectives.  Reporting directly to this position are the career Firefighters and the Fire Prevention Officer. The position may assume command of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief and acts as Duty Officer on a rotation basis during non–standard hours.    

You will have proven skills as an outstanding leader, communicator and coach and will have strong technical and labour relations skills along with considerable knowledge of legislation related to the fire service and experience working with senior staff and politicians.   Qualifications for this position include graduation from Grade 12 plus supplementary courses at the post-secondary level in Business Administration or a related discipline and completion of a Diploma or Certificate program in Local Government Administration, fire service management or equivalent.  In addition, Fire Service Instructor III, a minimum 10 years of fire suppression experience, a minimum 5 years of supervisory experience, considerable experience in legislation related to the fire service including the B.C. Building and Fire Codes and municipal emergency management including BCERMS and a valid Class 3 B.C. driver’s licence with Air Endorsement are required.  Certifications in Incident Safety Officer, Fire Officer IV, Fire Service Instructor II, Fire Investigator, and Fire Inspector III are desired.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description on the following links:

Applications are invited for the Temporary Full-Time position of Parking Enforcement Officer in the Administration Department at the Langley City.  Reporting to the Chief Bylaw Enforcement Officer, this position involves enforcing parking regulations under the City’s Traffic Regulation Bylaw and the Motor Vehicle Act. The successful Candidate will walk City streets and parking lots, in all weather conditions, chalking tires where parking signs designate time limits and on subsequent tours, ticketing offending vehicles.   This position will start on May 1, 2018 and will conclude on October 26, 2018.

The successful candidate will have Grade 12 supplemented by training in bylaw enforcement, experience in the field of investigations or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
